I am no fan of Groupon for restaurant marketing. The company seems to be money hungry enough to look past making sure its clients can handle their offers, and in the process they are alienating some of their base. But their Super Bowl ad took it to a whole new level with its insensitivity. Watch it here and see the reaction below:
The commercial speaks for itself and the company’s miscalculation also allowed people to speak for themselves as well. Check out twitter:
How does a company with such strong social media roots pay to be blasted via social media? The same way they sell thousands of Groupons that can’t be redeemed or are honored with sub par products.
To me though the thousands of small business groupon virgins that get talked into bad deals for them, and great deals for Groupon, are the reason I insist that restaurants don’t get caught up in the press frenzy.
